I knew of one case in the early seventies in our congregation. One couple was an elder and his wife. It was all fun and games until two of them didn't want to swing on back home. Wow then it all go found out. Lesson to all you kids out there.

How common is swinging among JWs?
by JimmyPage inmy wife and i recently heard about two couples we know who switched partners in the past.
we then got to talking about a different couple we ate dinner with a while back who i thought gave off the vibe of wanting to swing.
my wife said she got that vibe too... thus the question: how common is this in wt-land?.

What I did this morning instead of service
by palmtree67 inok, so my man coaches pee-wee football.
so i go at 10 this morning to watch 13 eight to ten year olds fumble around on the field for 2 hours.
but this was an "optional" practice and so the ones who showed up - really wanted to be there to learn.

Don't you just love Saturday morning now. Soccer games in the fall, basketball in the winter, softball in the spring. Go out to breakfast, shop, go to the pool, mow the lawn. Energy to go out in the evening. Life is good!

Can't speak with me, unless they need something
by Stan Conroy inafter many, many years outside of the jw world, my elderly parents finally decided to give me an ultimatum.
i either rejoin the jw's or they will never speak with me again.
apparently my brother is going to get the same choice.

My family has done this for years, they will talk to DF'ed ones when there is a health care crisis. My parents have loosely endorsed this policy the last few years, my family would have never been trotted out for dinner with the circuit overseer but we sure are there for the grunt work and we were still at every meeting, just not enough for them, like elder or pioneer.
Miola- I totally agree that they have a right to there religious beliefs. If they want to not celebrate birthdays, abstain from blood, or face east and pray seven times a day that's all fine. But I really think it's asking to much to ignore you their entire life and call when they need you. I am with you, I will do what I have to do. But good lord will anyone ever notice that this is not what christianity was meant to be! Welcome to the site.

Why do so many Xjw's not end up in some sort of trouble?
by AK - Jeff inmy observation has been the opposite of agb's in this regard.
i have known of precisely 0 who have turned to gangs/drugs/prostitution after abandonning the lies known as jehovah's witnesses.
most seem to lead lives of quiet hope outside the mainstream religious community once they leave - but far from dangerous lives [even from the jw perspective].. just thought counter-point might be fairplay here.. do xjw's live like jw's?

I can only speak for my family. My kids are at an age where they could really be giving me problems. They are not. Many teens "in the truth" are just the opposite. My marriage is intact. Three JW couples we know are getting divorced right now. I can say I wake up happy. Drink a lot less than I used to. Don't smoke. It's all good. No trouble.

"Dance ot The Posesses Fader"
by cluless ini was taking money from my a.t.m machine when i turned and saw a couple of witnesses from the congregation staring at me as if i were satan himelf.. i obliged them by waiving my arms and legs about and dancing in a very demon posessed way.. the look on their faces gave them-selfs away.
it was a look of smag sattisfaction that this is what happends to faders.
iam sure they will enjoy telling the story of the"dance of the posessed fader " for years to come.. clueless..

What I do know is that there is peace to be found and there love to be had, after the organisation
by LIftsong inmy mother became a jw when i was six months old so i was brought up within the confines of the organisation.
i left properly in my early twenties and i am now 43 so a good 22 years of life, post being a witness have i travelled and documented thus far.
mine was a typical experience of a child in the congregation and i was busy doing my best to be a little adult as the child within slowly fell asleep.

Welcome, thank you for sharing your life story so forthrightly. I am in your same age bracket and wish I would have made my escape 20 yrs ago. I can so relate to the "cold front" that you receive from people you have known you entire life. I am glad your daughter eventually woke up, she probably would not have had the strength had dad not blazed the way. This is the gift I hope that my exit has given to our children. Will look forward to more of your posts.

I cannot even imagine how tough it is with one of you still "in". My husband and I have been apart before, but I have never been more lonely than the night last week when he went to the memorial. I was just so afraid they would corner him and brainwash him all over again. Anyway he came home and his mind was still dirty the way I like it but I don't know if I could deal with that feeling a couple of times of week. If we hadn't have both quit I don't know if we would still be together or not.

Intellectual Honesty - What it Means & Does not Mean
by Amazing inrecently, someone whom i said was being intellectually dishonest, took it to mean that i was accusing her/him of being deceptive.
this is not the meaning of intellectual dishonesty.
intellectual dishosesty is about the use of false argumentation styles, something many jws do not spot in wts arguments, and something that a number of ex-jws carry with them and unwittingly employ.. a case example: today, president obama chose to sign a bill that protects 2,000,000 acres, some of which is good for ranching and recreation.. intellectual dishonesty by a far right conservative may see this as a threat to individual rights to own land, farm, and ranch, and may compare such a bill as taking us toward more government ownership of land.

I was just sitting here showing my son this thread. He is just starting to learn about fallacies in school. We were saying that these should really be applied to anything you read. When I started reading the WT publications and listening to talks through these glasses I woke up. You really begin to see why they are anti education and discourage any outside reading material. If the Awake magazine offers a college education equivalency why did I not learn about fallacies until I went back to college?
